Around The House...
Organizational and Spring Cleaning Adventures

I don't know about you, but I've been spending the past few weeks cleaning out drawers and closets, dusting shelves, and DE-cob webbing corners. Don't I clean at least once a week? where does this all come from?
...and suddenly it's days away from JUNE!

I started with my closet and sewing area in our second bedroom. Thankfully, I have a small space to spread out my crafts, and I have finally found storage I am happy with.

I have been hunting for vintage suitcases for as long as I can remember, and last summer I snagged the two brown pieces at an estate sale around the corner. The green pair were a gift from my mom. Her and her employers were cleaning out the basement of their shop, and these guys were once used for their shop's window display. I adore them. Aesthetically and organizationally.
They store my endless yards and swatches of fabric. YES all four of them... Also, the green army box they are resting on stores all my crafts and stationary, paints, and old sculpture and art projects/pieces. I used to work at a consignment shop when I was in college in Bristol, Rhode Island (between Providence and Newport), and scored this piece from the shop: Second Helpings.

These folded floral paper boxes were a Goodwill find - 4 boxes for 79 cents each! I use them to store my spools of thread and I couldn't be more pleased.

Sometimes it helps to keep things simple: Jackets, shirts (long sleeve fades to short), skirts, dresses, and pants. Others prefer the color fade technique: pinks, reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, blacks, greys, beige & whites. To be honest, I do a bit of both. See what works for you and your space. Play around with it, especially as you purge the old and consequently fill hangers with new items. Vertical canvas shoe racks are convenient and can be found just about anywhere from your local dollar store to any online home store. Floor space can be utilized as well. I loath clutter! So, I compromise with baskets and boxes, and here on the floor of my closet - the green wood bin is the insert to the army bin underneath my luggage cases, and I use it to organize my bag/purse collection and my yarn and knitting needles. Get crafty, most of what we need we already have lying around. Re purpose, reuse, redo whenever and wherever you can. You'll be surprised how much you can do for so little cash and time.

Closet Reorganization complete!
